Privacy Policy

Updated: June 24, 2026

Focal Cam currently has no account system, cloud sync, ad tracking, or third-party analytics reporting. Your photos, profile, preferences, location, and usage history are not uploaded to our own servers. Pro products, purchases, and restores are handled by the App Store and StoreKit.

1. Overview

This policy explains what information Focal Cam uses for shooting, filter processing, frame rendering, the in-app library, and Pro purchases.

Unless you choose to export, share, send feedback by email, or the Photos app syncs content according to your iCloud settings, photos and local data stay on your device.

We keep the privacy labels on the App Store product page aligned with the version you use. If our data handling changes in the future, we will update this policy and our App Store Connect privacy disclosures.

2. Information We Use

  • Photos and imported images are used for preview, filter processing, frame rendering, and display in the in-app library. Originals, finished images, and thumbnails are stored on this device.
  • Your avatar, name, signature, preserved settings, filter order, and frame content are stored only on this device so the app can restore your preferences.
  • Photo time, device model, lens or focal length, resolution, exposure information, and frame text may be used in the in-app info panel, frame signatures, and finished image files.
  • Capture location is used only after you turn on saving capture location. It may be shown in frames and kept with photos.
  • The app reads device orientation so controls rotate correctly in portrait and landscape capture. This data is not used to identify you and is not uploaded.
  • To show whether Pro is active, the app stores necessary entitlement information on this device, such as product ID, purchase date, expiration date, and transaction ID.

3. How Permissions Are Used

  • Camera: used for live preview, focus, exposure, zoom, capture, and review. The app does not continuously capture camera frames in the background.
  • Photos: used to choose or import images and, with your permission, save finished photos to the Photos app.
  • Location: used to show where a photo was taken in frames and to keep location information with photos. When generating place names, iOS geocoding services may process the location; the app does not send it to our servers.
  • Microphone: used only for audio in motion content such as Live Photo. Regular still photos do not use the microphone.

4. Photos and Library

After capture, Focal Cam saves photos to its in-app library first. Originals, thumbnails, and necessary records are stored on this device.

If you allow saving to the Photos app, finished photos may also appear there. Whether they sync to iCloud depends on your iOS and Apple Account settings.

When you send photos through the system share sheet, the content is passed to the app or service you choose. You initiate this action, and it is subject to that party's rules.

5. When Data May Leave the Device

  • App Store and StoreKit: loading Pro products, purchases, renewals, restores, and refunds are handled through Apple's App Store and StoreKit.
  • Photos and iCloud: after you allow saving to the Photos app, photos may sync to iCloud or other Apple services according to your system settings. Focal Cam does not control this.
  • Sharing and feedback: when you send photos through the share sheet, contact us by email, or attach screenshots as feedback, that content is handled by the destination app, mail service, or recipient you choose.

6. Retention and Deletion

  • Photos in the app, source files, finished images, and thumbnails remain on this device until you delete them in the app, uninstall the app, or remove related data through the system.
  • Your name, avatar, signature, filter order, frame settings, and preserved settings stay on this device to restore your preferences. They may not be recoverable after uninstalling the app or clearing app data.
  • The device stores a necessary Pro entitlement cache so access can be determined offline or when StoreKit is temporarily unavailable. After restores, refunds, or entitlement changes, the app re-checks with StoreKit when it can connect.

7. Your Choices

  • You can turn off preferences such as viewfinder grid, filter name display, and capture location in Settings.
  • You can delete photos from the in-app library. Copies saved to the Photos app need to be managed separately in the Photos app or iOS Settings.
  • Camera, Photos, Location, and Microphone permissions can be revoked in iOS Settings. Related features may stop working after permission is revoked.
  • If accounts, cloud sync, data reporting, or other connected features are added in the future, we will update this policy and continue to provide access in the app.
